Discuss the human needs that the mass media help to satisfy in terms of the news and entertainment media.

Whether human needs mass media help! When it comes to the media, most of us automatically think of the mass media. However, for those who work in the field, mass media tools are not always the most appropriate or most commonly used. By Mass Media I mean ‘the whole body of media reaching large numbers of public’ the major ones being newspapers, television and the World Wide Web also now as internet. I think the history of mass media can be said that started from the ancient Greece. Philosophers, generals and politicians of the ancient Society discuss issues and after spread to the public by the use of word of mouth. The ancient Greek Drama and poetry can be considered as a form of mass media, communicates a message to the society. In other words since the early years people has always being influenced by Mass Media. In today’s world people cannot leave without Mass Media and with the help of technological improvements to send messages to the masses is becoming easier and easier.

The main purposes of mass media are to provide information, entertainment and advertisement, but we must take care about that because mass media is like a knife , can use it to straight way and, wrong way.

Music, music videos, and music Web sites that reflect values consistent with ending violence against women and girls. Donate air time to organizations that oppose violence, specifically violence against women. Establish industry task forces to respond to con-cerns raised about children and media violence. For example, these task forces can monitor advertising that targets children or explore the consequences of portraying violence against women and girls in music and music videos.

Diversify images of women on television and radio to counter traditional stereotypes that perpetuate vio-lence against women. Provide fair and full coverage of women in pol- itics, sports, business, health, and education. Enhance programming and news coverage of efforts to end violence against women. Reflect diversity by continuing to hire women of color as producers, directors, writers, reporters, and expert commentators.

Teach media professionals about violence against women and prevention efforts.Develop or enhance courses offered at educa- tional institutions to include the media’s role in ending violence against women. Inform media professionals by integrating train-ing about violence against women into trade conferences, continuing education courses, newsletters, and other educational outlets.

Develop culturally relevant public awareness cam-paigns on violence against women.Target populations not typically reached through general outreach, including culturally specific programs, by using tailored language and messengers and a range of delivery medi-ums. Ensure that media campaigns, messages advocating prevention, and spokespeople res-onate in communities with different languages, cultures, and interests.Focus prevention messages on girls and boys in high school, middle school, and earlier to influ-ence attitudes and behaviors that may last a lifetime. Increase the number of public education and creative peer education

programs on college campuses.

Provide media coverage about the incidence, preva-lence, and impact of violence against women and the need for comprehensive, coordinated systems and community response. Provide the full context of violence-related news events such as crimes of self-defense by women to inform the public about the relation- ship between crimes and violence against women.

Improve, implement, and evaluate safeguards thatprotect children from images of violence and other potentially harmful material found on the Internet and other interactive media. Ensure that safeguards reflect the cognitive and emotional development of children while pro-tecting public and commercial interests and constitutional freedoms.Encourage parents and other caregivers to mon-itor children’s use of the Internet and other interactive media.

Continue to develop and publicize filtering, block-ing, labeling, and other mechanisms to allow con-sumers to voluntarily control access to violent or offensive content. Collaborate with victim advocates to develop effective tools and consumer education materi- als that support violence prevention initiatives.Expand public education campaigns about the availability of such mechanisms.

Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration to prevent new media crimes, including child sexual exploitation, the distribution of child pornography, and cyberstalking. Increase the capacity of state and local law enforcement and criminal justice systems to investigate and prosecute Internet crimes more effectively.

To be honest

Can media be satisfying people from news? Really human needs media to be satisfied.

It is very huge subject out of my knowledge I know if I say any things that is not right.

Because for answer to this question we need one team so just I can compare advantage and disadvantage of the news and entertainment through media. After that everybody can find the answer.

Newspapers: The newspapers are an incredible influence tool in society; they can easily turn on people emotions in favor or against an issue or something. This is because we as readers tend to believe everything that is written in the newspaper even do it might be the wrong information. We can take the case around 12 years ago of the murder of James Bugler by Robert Thompson and Jon Enables, the British press had alleged that the kids were influence to commit such an act because of a spiteful video that they had watched, at the end the end they two kinds had not seen that video. What does this tell us about the newspapers? They mislead information that goes to the public which immediately influences the public to react, in this case the parent of kids prosecute the media that had influence their kids, but they don’t know that the same media is influencing them to do act that way.

Television is ‘the transmission of visual images of moving and stationary objects, generally with accompanying sound, as electromagnetic waves and the reconversion of received waves into visual images.’ Television is of very big influence in today’s world. It transmits images and as one has probably heard of the saying – One picture worth’s more than thousands of words – this is way have a major influence in the viewers. Mainly in the consume habits of the public, yes, advertising is probably one the most influential item about Mass Media.

Internet ‘also known as the World Wide Web (WWW), it contains of a web of computers working together and connecting to each other like a spider web, and it allows the person to research all kinds of material on their computer and learn more and the topic or issue they are after.’ this is the newest type of Mass Media there it reaches world wide, if one has a webpage made in Thailand someone in Colombia can see it. Strategic Thinking Effectiveness of entertainment mass media in Changing Behaviour

"There is strong evidence that mass media, particular entertainment broadcast media, have played a significant role in a number of countries in bringing about changes in reproductive behavior and in promoting adoption of other health measures. Radio and television soap operas in Mexico, Brazil, India, Kenya and Tanzania have been documented by independent research in their massive effects on audience attitudes and behavior with regard to HIV/AIDS avoidance and use of family planning."
